Biden's EV tariffs may not be enough to stave off the threat of Chinese vehicles in the U.S.

President Joe Biden’s plan to increase tariffs on China-made electric vehicles (EVs) may not effectively prevent more Chinese cars and trucks from entering the US market. The new 100% tariff, up from the current import tax of about 25%, specifically targets EVs imported from China but allows room for Chinese models to undercut domestic prices. Chinese automakers may also exploit loopholes by importing EVs from other countries like Mexico. Despite the increased tariffs, experts believe that Chinese automakers will eventually enter the US market with EVs. The tariffs are seen as a short-term protectionist measure that may delay but not halt Chinese automakers’ expansion plans.
